Flatulence - Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Flatulence
Flatulence is the
comfortless occurrence of air or wind in the stomach or intestines,
extending
to
immoderate
passing of wind through the mouth or anus.
Flatulence may
lead
from swallowing too much air from
flatulent
drinks, as a
anxious
habit, or from eating or drinking too
rapidly; from gas
composition
in the largebowel by fermentation as the normal bacteria there digest fibres,
particularly
those in legumes
and vegetables of the cabbage family; and from bacterial metabolism of protein which has not been digested and absorbed in the small bowel.
Flatulence may also be a characteristic of digestive commotiones such as dyspesia, irritable bowel syndrome or gall bladder disease. Attention to the cause will
normally
correct the
difficulty.
