Erythrasma- Symptom, Causes, Treatment of Erythrasma
Erythrasma is the skin infection that is induced by the bacterium Corynebacterium minutissimum.
Erythrasma can
impact
the skin between the toes to
induce
flaking, cracking and sogginess which resemble the emergence of athletes foot. It can also
appear
in skin folds such as the groins, between the buttocks, below the breasts and in the armpits, causing asymmetric pink-brown scaly patches which seems like intertrigo. The infection is
establish
primarily
in adults, and is more
frequent
in diabetics and people living in tropical climates.
It is
essential
to
differentiate
erythrasma from fungal skin infections. Doctors can
promptly
do this by examining the
impacted
skin with wood's light (ultraviolet light filtered through a specific glass), under which erythrasma
exhibits
a
symptomatic
coral-red fluorescence. The condition clears up
quickly
when treated with appropriate antibiotics by mouth. Antibacterial soaps may
assist
to prevent ecurrence.
